Herbert attended public schools in LeCompte, Louisiana and was a member of the 1974 graduating class of Carter C. Raymond High School. He also attended Grambling State University and became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Herbert, as a teenager, fell in love with Daisy Mae Williams. The two became one on December 24, 1979 and they shared 36 years of marriage.
Herbert served his country for 22 years in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant in 1996. He continued service to his country until his death as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 18 years.
Herbert confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and later joined Praise Christian Center World Outreach. He served his Lord in many capacities; but his proudest moment was being ordained as a Deacon on February 21, 2016. He accepted the responsibilities of this role willingly and with a sincere desire to serve God and the church family to the best of his abilities.
Herbert was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was kind, caring, and a wise advisor. He loved sports and was a fan of all the Houston teams. He helped those in need and was well-respected by all who knew him.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings; Ellen Ruth Martin, Frances Johnson, Evelyn Simmons, Brenda White Simmons and Irvin Lionel Gold.
Herbert will be missed by all who knew him and leaves to cherish his memories: His wife, Daisy; 2 daughters, Sharon Gold of Houston, TX, Kenneatra (David) Watts of Dallas, TX; 1 son, Adrian Gold of Houston, TX; 2 sisters, Yvonne Jordan, LeCompte, LA and Corelia Phillips of Pineville, LA; 4 brothers, Arthur (Donna) Hampton of Ypsilanti, MI, Aubrey Gold of Apple Valley, MN, Darrell (Katina) Hampton of Texas City, TX and Christopher Gold of LeCompte, LA; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and friends.
