Henry began his life journey in Tacoma, Washington on May 1, 1940. He graduated from Fife High School in Tacoma, Washington. After graduation, Henry proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1958. He attended boot camp and Telegraph Operator training at MCRD in San Diego, California; Infantry Training at Camp Pendleton, California; and completed his tour of duty aboard various Naval Ships. He was released from active duty in 1962, and honorably discharged in 1964. Henry married Loretta Curran and relocated to Houston, Texas in 1962. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from University of Houston-Downtown, in 1981. He worked for several banking entities including Reagan Commerce Bank and Allied Fairbanks Bank. After getting out the banking business, Henry found his niche in insurance. His company, EFG Insurance Agency, Inc. was founded in 1995, and will continue to serve the community into the future.
Henry is survived by his son Brian and wife Betsy, daughter Susan and husband James Zipperer, grandchildren Branden and Blake Vogel. He also leaves four sisters: Margaret Sides, Marilyn Benton, Merry Valdez and Lucy Sanders, nieces, nephews, and so many friends.
Henry loved college football, where his favorite team was the Houston Cougars. He enjoyed listening to 50’s and country music. If he wasn’t watching news programs, he was watching old westerns. Henry was also a collector of cookie jars, from the past and present, and Christmas villages he would display during the holidays. His life focused around spending time with family and friends.
Henry was a philanthropist with a huge heart. He gave back to the community through large food drives. Donations of "back to school" supplies and back packs for local schools and organizations were an annual occurrence. He was a member of the Lions Club International; Aldine Optimist Club; Spring/Klein Chamber of Commerce; The Greater East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce; The 100 Club of Houston; the National Rifle Association; and various other organizations. These philanthropic endeavors will continue into the future to honor the spirit lovingly initiated by Henry.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful people at Bristol Hospice in The Woodlands and his numerous caregivers for their loving care and devoted support during this time.
Funeral services will be held for immediate family at American Heritage Funeral Home. Henry will be laid to rest at the Houston Veterans Memorial Cemetery following services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. Memorial donations may be made to Camp Hope, American Cancer Society, or any no-kill animal shelter.
