Henry Lee Preston was born April 28, 1932, in Grand Cane, Louisiana to Asbin and Hattie Preston, he was the third of six children. With a meek and calm spirit and a heart full of faith Henry Preston walked through life, leaving a trail of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and church.
Henry attended school at Saint Mission School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St Mark Church in Holly, Louisiana. When he moved to Houston, Henry united with First St Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James H Cook.
Henry married his beloved Willie Ruth Sudds in 1951, and together they raised seven children, a testament to their love and resilience.
Henry wasn't one to sit idle. He built a successful career at Proler Steel, where he worked for 24 years. While working for Proler he launched his own dump truck business, where he later worked for himself until he retired at age 77.
But his true passion lay in serving others, particularly at First St Mark Baptist Church. Henry was an active and dedicated member of First St Mark. He served on the deacon board, Sunday school superintendent and was a member of the Finance committee, and president of the Trustee Board. Henry was a God-fearing man and loved Jesus and loved his church family. He remained a devoted and faithful member until his passing.
Evenings at home and gatherings were filled with the sounds of laughter and love, his voice leading the way. He loved nothing more than The Lord, spending time with his family, and sharing stories and wisdom over a plate of food or dominoes table. His legacy lives on in his surviving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who carry his laughter and love in their hearts. He will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Asbin and Hattie Preston; wives Willie Ruth Preston and Lelia Preston; siblings Mose, Thelma, and Jeraldine; and sons Gregory and Henry Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory five children: David, Brenda (Earnest), Annette (Nathan), Michael (Shirley), and Kevin (Benita). One brother, Frank Preston (Theola); one sister, Ester Peoples; nine Grandchildren, David, Aisha, Stacy, Gerard, Antwine, Krystle, Brandon, Ainsley, Lauren; seven Great-Grandchildren, Cor’Daisha, Stacy Jr, Debra, Bre’Ana, Milan, Maddox, Madisyn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
