Henry was very proud to serve his country in the United States Coast Coast in The Great Lakes Region and the Aleutian Islands beginning in 1957. He met Lucille and they married in January of 1962 and would be celebrating 63 years of marriage this coming January. Henry soon began his career in the drycleaning business and became a large franchise owner of Pilgrim Cleaners for over 25 years. Henry was very involved with the Dry Cleaning Association of Houston and served as its President in 1977-78. He eventually sold out of the drycleaning business in 1993 and began a new career as a restaurant owner of The Hofbrau Steakhouse in Conroe, Texas. He built and opened the current Hofbrau Steaks and Seafood in Porter, Texas in 1995. Henry was an active member of the International Wine and Food Society for over 35 years where he and Lucille made lifelong friendships and learned to appreciate and collect wine. Henry was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Many hunting trips were taken with family and friends to his long-time deer lease in Bandera,Texas. He was a bird hunter as well and enjoyed trips to South Texas, New Mexico and South Dakota to name a few. Henry had a passion for fishing since childhood and enjoyed a lifetime of fishing trips in Galveston and Matagorda Bays with his dear fishing buddies. Many happy family events were spent at their 2nd home on Lake Livingston. Henry and Lucille also traveled extensively and enjoyed many fabulous trips including some favorites to Russia, Italy and Scandinavia. As a serviceman in the US Coast Guard, Henry developed a special love and respect for the ocean. In their later years, Henry and Lucille spent many Septembers traveling to the Pacific northwest and driving down the coastline. Henry will be remembered as a family man, entrepreneur, outdoorsman and lover of travel, wine and food. Henry loved the Lord, serving his country and his family dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hattie and George Barbato.
He is survived by his wife Lucille Corona, his two siblings Ginger (Michael) Saladino and John (Pat) Barbato, his three daughters Lynn (James) Hicks, Mary (Mark) Steckler and Kathy (Paul) Mann, his six grandchildren Courtney (Terance) Traugott, Logan Hicks,Tyler Steckler, Kyle Steckler, Michael Mann and Madison Mann and his great-grandchildren Ava Traugott (and soon to be born great-granddaughter baby Traugott).
A visitation for Henry will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will follow and begin promptly at 2:30 PM in Brookside’s Grand Chapel. Burial will take place in Brookside Memorial Park.
After the interment, friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at The Hofbrau Steaks and Seafood 24890 FM 1314, Porter, Texas.
