Helen’s struggle came to a close on the morning of September 20th 2015 at approximately 11:30 AM
Helen at the time she left us was 80 years young.
Shortly before her death Helen had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was resting at home while being comforted by her loving daughters Kristi and Karri, her grandsons Chase and JT and her husband of 58 years Tom Standish.
Helen Sarah Standish was born April 19th 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the youngest daughter of Vincent and Anna Tallerico.
Helen the younger of their two daughters was more of a tomboy then most girls during her childhood and teenage years. Helen then blossomed into a fine young woman ready to experience life.
Spirited for adventure she joined the Marine Corps while in the Marine Corps reserves she met a young man by the name of Tom. As the story goes according to her daughters Kristi and Karri Tom’s dad used to deliver ice to her Mom’s house.
A meeting soon led to a relationship which led to a marriage of these two young people.
Tom admitted that times were tough in the beginning. The young couple had to live with Helen’s mom until they could get something on their own.
Through hard work and dedication to the family Tom and Helen forged on to build a life together.
Soon to be blessed by oldest daughter Kristi with the younger daughter Karri not that far behind.
Tom and Helen moved to Houston Texas in 1963 Helen was scared at first but, as always worked hard in the belief that they would persevere.
Helen was trained as a hair dresser, she would work that craft through the years. She worked in many hair salons. Later in her life she worked as a hair dresser in nursing homes. As Kristi and Karri has said she made many friends with the residences there; stating that many of them that were in the nursing home were in fact younger then she was.
She took great joy in serving others knowing that whatever little thing she could do to bring joy to another person was in fact bringing a joy to her as well.
On retiring she continued to be an avid reader, cherishing her children and grandchildren while enjoying the time she had together with her husband Tom.
Helen was preceded in death by her father Vincent, mother Anna and sister Corina
Helen is survived by her husband Tom, her daughters Kristi and Karri their husbands John and David
