Helen Ann Pesek Schindler passed away peacefully in her home on October 5, 2021. She was born to faithful and loving parents, Charles and Bohdanka Pesek in St. Mary’s, Texas on April 27, 1936. She attended Brown School until 8th grade. In 9th grade she went to Nazareth Academy, a boarding school in Victoria, Texas. After completing high school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hallettsville, Texas, she received her LVN training at Renger Hospital after which she moved to Houston and worked at Saint Lukes and Saint Joseph’s hospital. Helen ended her nursing career at Citizen’s General Hospital in the newborn nursey where she met her incredible friend of 45+ years Becky Thayer. Helen’s gentle nature was a blessing to the infants in her care.
She met and married the love of her life, John Henry Schindler in 1957. Mother was the role that fit her best. Together, she and John raised seven children in the faith filled traditions that shaped their own childhoods. They attended Assumption Catholic church in Houston and later St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Helen served in many capacities at church including helping with vacation Bible School, St. Theresa’s Food Bank, ACTS retreat team, sewing blankets for nursing homes and many other ways to support and care for her community.
Helen will be remembered as selfless, fun, friendly and always ready for a new adventure. Helen gave support and love even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength that will be remembered.
She is preceeded in death by her mother and father as well as her husband John and son Gregory.
Helen is survived by her children Monica Schindler of Houston, Yvonne and husband Chay Turnbow of Cypress, Michael Schindler of The Woodlands, Daughter in law Donna Schindler of Houston, Michelle and husband Gary Turnbow of Cypress, Ronnie and wife Catherine of Magnolia and Camille and husband Maurice Bucklin of Tomball. Grandchildren Zachary Turnbow, Nicholas Turnbow, Josh Turnbow, Tyler Turnbow, Travis Schindler, Jacob Schindler, John Schindler, MaryHelen Bucklin, Suzanne Bucklin and one great grandchild Luke Turnbow.
She is also survived by her siblings Daniel and wife Helen Pesek of East Bernard, Jerome Pesek of Hallettsville, Father Anthony Pesek of Shiner, Paulie Pesek of Hallettsville, and Mildred and husband Joe Janda of El Campo.
