Hazel Jane (Melton) Bostick, 87, departed this life to be with the Lord on May 8, 2010 in Katy, Texas. Born April 27, 1923 in Pulaski County, Arkansas, Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Hosea Lee and Mary Ellen (Bell) Melton; brother, Harvey Melton; sister, Marie Reid.
She is survived by husband of 57 years, Robert Lee Bostick of Katy, Texas; daughter and husband, Karen and Mike Duncan of Katy, Texas; grandson and wife, Jarrod and Kari Black of Katy, Texas; sister, Lois Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas; nieces, Shirley and husband, Tom Peter of Little Rock, Arkansas, Margaret and husband, Wayne Womack of Cabot, Arkansas, Diane and husband Royce Weeks of Cabot, Arkansas; and numerous other family members and friends.
Hazel accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She attended Bayou Meta schools and graduated from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas. While attending Business School in Little Rock, she met the love of her life, Robert, through one of her friends. They were married on November 29, 1952 and built a loving life together which has lasted for over a half century.
Hazel was a faithful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was loyal to those she loved and always looked for ways to help others. She loved children and worked in the Church Nursery for over 40 years caring for others’ children as if they were her own. It was no surprise that she was ecstatic when her grandson was born. She was a doting grandmother and never missed an opportunity to attend school, scout, and sports functions.
Hazel loved to bake and make excellent pies and cakes. Family especially loved her coconut and chocolate Meringue pies. Her daughter always preferred a chocolate pie to a cake for birthday celebrations, and Christmas always called for her Texas Nut Cake.
Hazel devoted herself to her family as homemaker, wife and mother. She exemplified Proverbs 31- She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beatify is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
The family wishes to thank Lifestyle Solutions Hospice for their care during the last weeks of Hazel’s life, and especially to her special angels – Katie Baynham, Dorothy Jenkins, Indira Ortega and Nuria Arzu for their personal care and devotion.
