Harley Earl Hicks, age 89, passed away on August 18, 2021. Earl was born on July 11, 1932, in Shamrock, Texas. He graduated from Pascal High School in Fort Worth and Texas Christian University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Math. Earl served his country as a member of the Navy and was deployed during the Korean War. After his time in the service, he worked for Shell Oil Company for 30 years retiring in 1990 as a Staff Geophysicist.
He married his wife, Evelyn, on July 3, 1980, and enjoyed 41 years of marriage which included traveling the world on mission trips and just to explore new places. He loved watching sports, bird watching, spending time with his family and participating in the prison and jail ministry.
Earl was preceded in death by his children Danny, Richard and Sylvia and sisters, Ruth and Garnette. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his children Christina Pratt, Kimberly Rose, and Melissa Carr, and his step-children, Kirk Moreland and Kaye Karolys and daughter-in-law Rhonda Hicks. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren (Mike Howard, Jason Hicks, Jessica Rourke, Ashley Karolys, Nicholas Karolys, Sergei Rose, Ryan Rose, Meaghan Rose, Reagan Rose, Morgan Rose, Rowan Rose, Logan Carr, and Quinlynne Carr) and 5 great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 1 pm on Saturday, August 21,2021, in the chapel at Tallowood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to KAIROS of Texas (Eastham Unit), P.O. Box 130402, Spring, TX 77393, or to Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Rd., Houston, TX 77024.
