The youngest of four siblings, he was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 31st 1957 and moved to Houston in his early teens. Greg attended Sam Houston High School and graduated with Honors from the Video Technical Institute with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Electronic Technology.
Greg met his soulmate, Ronda Huckabay, at the age of 13. They were married on January 19th, 1980. A jack of all trades throughout the years, Greg worked as a stonemason, machinist, framer, concrete finisher and mechanic. He was a storyteller with a love for music, drag racing and fishing. His ’69 Mustang Cobra Jet and NHRA diecast collection were among his most prized possessions.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2013, Greg underwent chemo and radiation treatments. Although successful at eliminating the cancer, the side effects of the radiation severely impacted his quality of life.
He is survived by his wife Ronda, daughter Kelly Jernigan (Brett), son Gregory Duane Armitage (Lori), grandchildren Lacie Armitage, Mayzie and Archer Jernigan, sister Linda Haygood (Cullen), and brothers Charles Armitage (Pam) and Ron Armitage (Debbie).
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am, Saturday July 27th, 2019 at Brookside Funeral Home.
