Gloria Brown was born on May 2nd 1930 to the late Joseph August, Sr. (Late Pearl Eloise August) and Lillian Rozier-August. At A very young age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior through her family strong Catholic faith. Gloria was educated in the New Orleans School system where she attended St. Mary’s Academy and Booker T. Washington, Senior High School.
Gloria was united in marriage to the late Raymond Brown for 21 years. During this union, Raymond was a member of the military. During this time, Gloria and her 2 sons, JL and Larry, had the opportunity to travel abroad and experience different cultures, food and ways of living. Upon returning to the states, she began working several jobs and eventually retired from the Orleans Parish School Board, where she worked for 15 years in the cafeteria and custodial departments.
Gloria was our rebel, not afraid to do or say anything. If she wanted to do it she did it. If she wanted to say it, she said it. Gloria was very outgoing; she never met a stranger. Everyone she came in contact with, instantly fell in love with her. She was everybody’s grandma, auntie, nanny, friend and so on. She was very family oriented; she loved and adored her family. Her sons, JL and Larry, was everything to her. She loved to give them a hard time, but it was all in love. However, it was a different level of love she had for her grand and great grandkids. She was the epitome of everything a grand/great grandma would be. She equally gave her time and attention to each of them. She was greatly vested in what was going on in their lives, no matter how big or small. They was always her main topic of conversation. Gloria was also the cook of the family. She was mostly known for her creamy red beans, gumbo, hot tamales and stuffed chicken legs, just to name a few. And for her dessert, her famous punch bowl cake. Gloria also loved the casino, bingo, and card games. Her favorite movies were “Purple Rain” and “Two Can Play That Game”. She loved her some Prince and Vivica Fox.
