George Johnston Polk Jr., 1940 – 2018, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, the 25th of May 2018 in Houston, TX. He was born in Houston, Texas on August 29, 1940 to George and Pauline Polk. He grew up in the Houston Heights and graduated from John H. Reagan High School.
He is survived by Caroline Sullivan, Kelli and Jacques van Gool, Jennifer and Rob Porchey, George J. Polk III and Amy Polk. His grandchildren; Taylor Porchey Moll, Tate Porchey, Wesley Polk and Emerson Polk. His siblings; Jane and Larry Keese, John and Janice Polk, nieces; Leslie and Kyle Ray, Chelsea Polk and nephew Larry Jr and Loretta Keese. He is preceded in death by his parents George J. Polk Sr. and Pauline Holt Polk and nephew Andrew D. Polk.
George worked for the majority of his life in real estate, first in residential and then commercial. But his true passion was selling farms and ranches, which he embraced fully when moving to Waller, Texas in the late 90s. He loved living in the country, sitting on his porch in the early evenings and telling cowboy stories – he was a country boy at heart.
Over the years George was involved in various Houston organizations and charities, including The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, The Houston Golf Association, The Houston Heights Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Country and The Shriners. He was a Freemason and an active member of Reagan Lodge No. 1037 in the Heights.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 31st from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1st at 10:00 also at Heights Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Brookside Cemetery, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in his memory to Boys and Girls Country or the Alzheimer’s Association in Houston.
