She was born on January 19, 1930, in Houston, Texas, to Albert H Telschow Jr and Frances Telschow. Genevieve graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1947 and later completed her nursing education at John Sealy Nursing School in Galveston, Texas. She was married to Kenneth Tyler, Sr. for 11 years and had three children. She was married to Malcolm Slaughter until his passing in February 1989. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joyce Alene Cipolla.
During her career as a registered nurse, Genevieve demonstrated unwavering dedication. She worked as a vocational nurse, taught nursing, and contributed her skills to various hospitals in the Houston area. Her commitment to healthcare and compassionate care touched the lives of many.
Genevieve is survived by her children Kenneth Tyler, Jr., Cathy Sherrill and her husband Tony, and Cynthia Tyler and her husband David Rambo. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michael Sherrill and wife Dung, Mark Sherrill and wife Sara, Steven Sherrill, Frances Garcia, Kenneth Burns III, Jennifer Gipson, and Cheryl Burns; great-grandchildren Kenneth Choate, Hunter, and Hannah Sherrill, Lauren and Genevieve Gipson, and Nora and Raymond Adame, Jr., Joel, Elicia and Cynthia Bentancourt, Angelina and Jesus Garza Jr., Brandon, Julianne and Schon and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is additionally survived by her sister, Kathleen Telschow Gardner.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Brookside Funeral Home Cypress Creek, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, Texas 77095. A service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects.
