Memorial services for Freddie Matthews Sr., 84, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Monday September 20, 2021 at Brookside Funeral Home in Houston, Texas with Bro. Fred Alford officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. till 2 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Matthews was born January 9, 1937 in Houston, Texas, and passed away September 3, 2021 at his home in Livingston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, James C. Sandlin and Alma Maudie (Matthews) Sandlin; brother, J.C. Sandlin; sister, Ima Jean Wheeler; and brother, Tommy L. Sandlin.
After receiving his GED, Freddie enrolled in the military and was honorably discharged in Feb 1958 after three years of overseas service. He married the love of his life Faye in 1965 and raised five children, supporting his family as a plumber. In his spare time during the 70’s he and the family built the Livingston home to which he and Faye retired to in 1999.
Freddie was also a Freemason. Joining in the mid 1970’s and remained an active member until passing. He cherished his Lord and Masonic membership and credited it for his love of life and mankind.
During retirement he loved to be outside, working the land and creating wood art for his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Faye Matthews of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Cindy Polhemus and her husband Matt Polhemus of Damon, Texas; daughter, Wanda Matthews and her husband David Brennan of Woodsboro, Texas; son Freddie Matthews Jr. and daughters Trochelle and Tessa of Texas along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Moses Clepper, Gary Coleman, David Brennan, Will Holcombe, Jaden Holcombe and Corran Holcombe.
