Frank was born in Chicago, IL on October 4, 1930. Frank served as a Sergeant in the USMC and was a Korean War Vet. He was a member of Lorenzo de Zavala Masonic Lodge No. 1397 in Houston Heights for 25+ Years. He was Master Mason and last position was Chaplain. Frank was also a 32° Scottish Right Mason, and Arabia Shriner. He owned and operated several family businesses from stores, Nena’s cafe, Frank’s Pest Control, and Fat Pancho’s Tamales in the 1990’s. Fat Pancho’s Tamales earned the Marvin Zindler Blue Ribbon Award in 1992. The family tamale business was also featured in Houston Metropolitan Magazine and a small segment with Channel 11 Ron Trevino. In the early 1960’s Frank was a staff member for the Office of Ecomonic Opportunity Community Action Program at the HOUSTON ACTION FOR YOUTH, INC. where he advocated and help open several Youth Community Centers in the Houston area. Frank served the lord and attended the original Lakewood Church where he served as a Greeter and Host in the 1980’s.
Frank was preceded in death by his father Jose Cruz Hernandez from Arandas Jalisco, Mexico; mother Daria Chavez Hernandez from El Leon de las Saldamas, Mexico; sisters Maria De La Luz Hernandez, and Fermina Hernandez; and brothers Pete Hernandez, Henry Hernandez, and Candido Hernandez; sons Joseph Hernandez, Emil Hernandez, and Henry Hernandez; and Grandson Michael Hernandez. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Livia Moreno Hernandez; sons Frank Hernandez Jr (Norma), Paul Hernandez (Carmen), and Gabriel Hernandez (Maria); daughters Vanesa Rivera, Brenda Mendez, Amanda Villareal, Maria D. Hernandez (Rudy); 25 grandchildren, 44 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Frank Hernandez III, Jose Moya, Nicholas Hernandez, Martin Luke Villareal, Isaac Hernandez, John Hernandez, Joseph Hernandez, Anthony Wilson, and Honorary Pallbearer Rudy J. Suarez Jr.
Visitation for Frank Hernandez Sr. will be from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
Celebration of Life will be from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038
Committal Service, Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038 on April 26, 2022 at 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm.
