Frances Caroline Fowler

Frances Fowler was a native Houstonian and fifth generation Texan. A true Texan with strong roots, she graduated from Reagan High School and attended the University of Houston. She went with her husband, Sidney, to Buffalo, New York and Roanoke, Virginia with his work, but returned to Houston to rear their two daughters. Frances was very involved in PTA and the Houstonettes Drill Team Mother’s Club, serving as President, as well as other positions within these organizations. She was a dedicated member of the Sunshine Chapter (now Ransford Chapter) of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Always interested in history and in her own family’s genealogy, Frances has been a long standing member of the following organizations: Samuel Sorrell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Robert E. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Texas Star Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and a Life Member of the San Jacinto Descendents.

After both daughters graduated from the University of Houston, Frances became actively involved in her genealogical organizations, often attired in period dress at many historically significant museum functions and celebrations of historical events at Washington on the Brazos and the San Jacinto Battlefield, as well as other events. She and her family participated in designing, building, and decorating award winning parade floats representing the rich heritage of Texas Pioneers in parades throughout Southeast Texas, including the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Parades, and the Houston St. Patrick’s Day Parades.

In February of 2008, Frances moved to the Carriage Inn and thoroughly enjoyed her new friends and participated in the many activities provided. She truly had a joy for life and felt blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. She is survived by her daughters Caroline La Vois and Judy Hayman, husband Steve; JoAn Manges, daughter of Sidney Fowler; Grandchildren, Rod La Vois, Rusty Johnson, Tommy Hayman, Don Manges Jr., Sharlett Warner, Bell Foster; Great grandchildren, Micah, Michelle, and Lark.
