Florence Valerie Holt

Florence Valerie (Lewis) Holt lovingly known as Val to some and MOM to others, was born December 9, 1926 in Houston, Texas. Raised in Houston’s Fift h Ward, Valerie attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School and then on to Wheatley High School where she graduated at the age of 16. Aft er graduating high school, she went on to Xavier University in New Orleans, LA from 1943-45 and then Southern University 1945-47, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. Returning home to Houston she began teaching Mathematics at her alma mater, Wheatley High. She is preceded in death by both parents, Charles Emorand Lewis and Bertha Marie (Th omas) Lewis; brother, Carl Lewis; husband, Alexander Eugene Holt; sister, Bernadine (Lewis) McAfee; son, Tracy Arlen Justice; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Baker) Justice. She is survived by two brothers, Bernard Lewis (Lucy), Raymond Lewis (Joyce); 3 sons, John E. Justice Jr., Royce R. Justice (Sharon), Michael L. Justice (Jean); a daughter, Yvette Justice Fleming; 17 grandchildren, Michelle (Montae), John, Brittney (Jr.), Sabrina (Brandon), Rachelle, Andray, Marlon, Chantillis, Yolanda, Tracy (Kayla), Brian, LaKeisha (Christopher), Maurice (Karissa), Xavier, Jessica, Tamaria (Paul), Chris; 24 great-grands, Erin, Adrian, Brandi, Jordan, Jessica, Nicholas, Joshua, Paris, Diamond, Jay Jr., Angel, Kayren, Camion, Elijah, Braylon, DJ, De’Vante, Stacey, Kristy, Kendrick, Jay’Shun, Za’niya, Nau’Shay, Demetrius; one great-great-grand, Jaimeson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins along with those who knew her and loved her as family.
