Gary, IN on August 5, 1930. After growing up in the Chicago area, he came to Houston Texas about the
age of 10. He attended Jeff Davis High school.
Our Dad is survived by the loves of his life, Dolores (Valera) Martinez , sons Fernando R. Martinez, Jr
daughter in law Debra , Larry Allen Martinez and his two greatest joys, granddaughters, Catharina Nicole
Martinez of Los Angeles, CA and Stephanie Danielle Martinez of Rogers, AR.
Fernando retired from Southern Pacific Transportation after 42 years of service. He honorably served in
the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Fernando is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Adelaida Garza Martinez, brother Roy
Martinez and sister Frances Martinez. Surviving family members include brothers: Guadalupe Martinez,
Alfred Martinez and David Martinez in addition sister, Mercedes Martinez as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Fernando spent his retired years with his family, especially his granddaughters by traveling to support
them in their activities, celebrating birthdays and holiday gatherings. He dedicated much time and love
to his church and supporting Dolores with her leadership commitments to Boy scouting. Many family
memories were made during his lifetime that will live on in our hearts and memories forever. We will
miss his smile, kindness, and spirit, however he lives in our hearts forever.
Fernando’s last spoken words to Dolores, Larry and Nando Jr. the night he passed:
“Good night, I love you Dee, I love you, I love my family, I love everyone.”
