A MESSAGE FROM THE FAMILY
Evon Bertram Bent – 77 years – was born in Top Hill, a small residential district which stands between Junction and Southfield in the parish of Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica. He was the son of Gebert Bent and Ernie May Powell. Evon attended Top Hill All Age School where he sat the Jamaica Local Examination then moved on to Mico Teachers College. He eventually married Beverley Rosemarie Shaw and settled in Mandeville, Jamaica, when he joined the bauxite company Alpart from 1970 - 1982. Evon and Beverley have two children, Robert Andrew Bent and Nicole Antoinette Bent Jones. In 1982, he migrated with his family to Houston, Texas. He started working at Centerpoint Energy, formerly known as Houston Lighting & Power Company, and retired after 24 years of service. In 2013, his wife Beverley passed away just months after her 65th birthday and retirement and prior to their 43rd wedding anniversary. Evon later passed away in 2021 just shy of Father’s Day. Evon has taken the journey home, on a road that we all must go alone. He is survived by his children, daughter-in-law Stephanie, son-in-law William, grandchildren Dylan, Skylar, Ava, and Ivy. He is survived by his sisters Clarett, Lena, and Naomi; brothers Clinvern and Ranley; sister-in-laws Ditta, Beverly, and Sara; brother-in-law Derrick; nieces and nephews; and close friends. He loved his family and friends, holding his children in the highest esteem and cherishing moments with his grandchildren. His unwavering love for his family and friends will forever be his legacy. Family and friends, we have little time to gladden the hearts of those who make the pilgrimage with us. So, be swift to love, make haste to do kindness. Move urgently to lighten the burden of others, and the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father Son and the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always. So, until we meet again may you rest in peace Daddy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jamaica Foundation of Houston, for the Beverley & Evon Bent Scholarship Fund
