Eva C. Quiroga

She was born in Agualeguas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on December 20, 1932. She and her family emigrated to the US in the 1950s eventually building a life in Houston, TX.

If you didn’t know her well, you might confuse her demeanor and quiet strength as stern and maybe even gruff. But those who knew her well, knew she had the most loving, compassionate, and giving heart.

She was the rock for her immediate and extended family. She provided words of wisdom and guidance directly whether solicited or not. She knew her way around the kitchen making miracles of whatever was available. Her staples were pancakes with mayonnaise, tacos de frijoles and calabacita con pollo.

Eva loved her children and lead by example. She was a hard worker, a wise counselor and a loyal friend. She was a strong and independent woman who broke stereotypes early in her life by working outside the home, being the main provider and encouraging her children to pursue advanced education.

Her children knew the way to her heart was playing slot machines, dominos, or her favorite, Loteria, i.e. Mexican bingo. If you wanted to see her smile, you had two choices - bring her grandchildren around or plan a trip to Las Vegas or Louisiana casinos!

Eva leaves a legacy of strength, love, compassion, and pride. She is forever in our hearts.

Eva is survived by her four children Heberto (Lesvia), Rebecca, Romelia, and Armida; Ten grandchildren: Yadira (Jose), Fabio, Lucio, Erika, Aaron, Alec (Elly), Allen, Dalia, Denia and Diana; Seven great grandchildren: Ysidro (Abi), Liliana, Tatiana, Alexis, Araceli, Penelope, and Sofia; And three great-great grandchildren: Aidan, Elijah and Elenie.

Eva is preceded in death by her sister, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez de Garza; her eldest daughter, Martha Yadira Lopez; and her former husband, Aaron C. Quiroga.

A visitation for Eva will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A rosary will occur Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A committal service will occur Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.

Serving as pallbearers are Heberto Quiroga, Aaron A. Quiroga, Alec H. Quiroga , Allen D. Quiroga, Fabio L. Chapa and Lucio Chapa Jr..
