Ethelean Phipps Zeno was born in Oakhurst, Texas on December 8, 1941, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt and Willie Beatrice Phipps. She passed away on September 19, 2022, at the youthful age of 80.
Ethelean received formal education from Oakhurst School, graduated from the Texas School of Business, and received an associate’s degree in Business Management. She met Joseph R. Zeno, who was manager at Wyatt’s Cafeteria, and married on October 14, 1965, at Our Mother of Mercy. Ethelean worked as a career Bakery Manager at Romana cafeteria (Luby’s) until she went to work for Weingartens and then Gerlands until she retired. She had a passion for baking, Certification in CPR with a desire to care for others.
Ethelean is preceded in death by both parents, Roosevelt Phipps and Willie B. Phipps, (husband) Joseph R. Zeno, and brothers, Roosevelt Wright, Turner Wright Sr., and Arthur Gene Phipps. Ethelean Zeno is survived by two sons, Terry W. Zeno and Timothy D. Zeno, and grandson Juan-Derrick Zeno. Five sisters, Juanita Durio, Lois Ball, Genell Brooks (Anthony), Helen Twine (Jimmy), and Minnie Brown. Three brothers, Donald Ray Suzette Z. Hilliard and Nina E. Zenon, and one stepson, Derrick Zenon (Carol). Sister-In-Law Faye Senegal (Jerome), Mary Lona Harris-Zenon (John). Brother-In-Law, Carroll Zeno (Barbara). A host of nieces and nephews, along with step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Ethelean will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral will occur Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 2:30 PM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A final resting place will occur Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
