Edward Gilmore Stewart passed away from complications of pneumonia on the 20th of April 2011. He was born on the 11th of January 1957 in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston in 1975, Eddie attended Texas A&M University. He then received an accounting degree from the University of Houston and worked as an accountant.
Eddie was a gentle and loving man with a remarkably kind spirit. Friends and family were drawn to his warm personality and respect for others. As he was growing up, he was an exemplary student and a gifted athlete. Some of his happiest memories were summers spent playing sports at Camp Ozark. His many talents also included music, art and writing.
His greatest joy and blessings in life were his four children. They will always remember him as a caring and loving father.
Eddie was enriched by his devotion to the Christian faith. A lifelong study of the Bible fueled his faith in Christ. He took a particular interest in Christian prison ministry, reflecting his desire to help others in less fortunate circumstances.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Stewart. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert and Helen Stewart; and by his children, Steven and wife Lindsey, Joseph, Elizabeth and Collins and their mother, Carole Walter Looke. Also surviving are his brother, William Robert Stewart; and sister, Stephanie Jamison and her husband Bryan.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 29th of April, in the chapel of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Richard H. Elwood, Assisting Priest for Pastoral Care and Outreach, and the Rev. Edward L. Stein, Canon Precentor at Christ Church Cathedral, are to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Parlor.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, donations in Eddie’s memory may be directed to a Christian prison ministry of your choice; or to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX, 77056.
