He was ushered into his Lords presence by friends and family on both sides of the divide on November 6, 2012.
In the 61 eventful years between those dates, he exhibited a no-nonsense faith which he lived out in action. Everything he did was done in the highest standards. He lived by example. He was always available for friends and family in their time of need. Until his last days, he always placed the needs of others before his, sacrificing his personal needs for others. To him, a successful life was one that kept family united. There was no bigger gift to him than the sound of their voice or knock on his door. Any type of celebration for him always included feasting with his family and friends with the best food and company he could provide. One of his last requests included being surrounded by family in celebration of life, while enjoying his company and tasty barbeque. His request was honored on Nov. 2, 2012.
His work ethic began at the young age of 7. In an effort to help his mom make ends meet, he shined shoes and did any other odd jobs that would offer him an opportunity to provide for his mother and siblings. As the eighth child out of 17, he quickly became the nucleus for the young and old. His family knew he was always available to help them out. He was determined to do all he could to serve his parents and siblings.
He loved and revered one woman for more than 42 years. Together they raised a family of 4 that grew and included a family of many. Their family included her younger siblings that were orphaned at an early age. Both Edmundo and Rosa were determined to succeed in raising a productive and giving family.
He worked many years in the oil and gas industry as a pipe-fitter and welder. He worked many days and hours until the time he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Even then, he searched for ways to continue help others and provide for his family.
Edmundo’s faith led him often to search spiritual fulfillment at Assumption Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.
Edmundo was the patriarch of the family. For many, he became the nucleus for decision making. We will sorely miss his wisdom, guidance, affirmation, and unconditional love. His primary concern was always his family. He made sure they were taken care of before all others. Family always included friends. Until his last breath, his major concern was that family take care of each other. To him, his biggest success was his family.
His surviving family includes his beloved wife Rosa Hurtado Parada of Spring Texas, their children Tomasa Rivera (Gonzales) of Tuskaloosa, Alabama, Bibiana Hurtado (Galvan), Edmundo Hurtado Jr., Laura Hurtado (Walls), and Juan Hurtado Parada of Spring, Texas.
