Life's ReflectionsBrother Eddy Leon Jones, III was born to the late Eddie Jones and Sarah Jefferson Jones (Lewis) on July 1, 1941 in San Angelo, TX. Eddy received Christ at the age six through baptism, by the Rev. W. D. Harris, Mt. Zion Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX.Starting from a young age, Eddy was affectionately called "Bubba" by his family and friends growing up in San Angelo. He took pride in his family history and knowing he was the great, great grandson of Chief John Horse, the Leader of the Black Seminole Indian Scouts. He loved to cook and was famous for his red beans and rice, prime rib, Italian Cream Cake and pound cakes, among other delicious dishes. He would often say to others that if it wasn't baked from scratch then it wasn't a real cake. His sense of humor knew no bounds and he loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. He would talk to just about anyone and thus never met a stranger no matter where he happened to be at the time. After graduating from San Angelo Central High School, Eddy joined the United States Air Force and served his country for eight and one-half years during the Vietnam War era. After leaving the service, he worked for several different companies before joining Schlumberger Services (formerly known as Dowell Division of Dow Chemical). Eddy worked land rigs in West Texas as a Service Supervisor where he was the first supervisor or color before transferring to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana and Texas. He met and married Wanda Theriot Jones on July 30, 1988 at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. They were married for twenty-nine years. As a couple, they loved to travel, attend family functions and to experience new cultures. After twenty-eight years of service working land rigs in West Texas and working offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, he officially retired, but transitioned into working contract for Schlumberger Services. After a year, Eddy decided it was time to move on and find a new career off the waters of the Gulf. He took on an opportunity with Ogden Refueling at Bush Intercontinental Airport, refueling commercial aircraft for Continental Airlines (now United Airlines). He stayed with Ogden for four years before hanging up his hat and retiring for good. Eddy's faith was enriched through his commitment to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Herbert L. Johnson and Reverend David L. Jones. Brother Jones served diligently in many auxiliaries of the church: Sunday School teacher, Sr. Choir Male Chorus and as a member of the Mt. Zion Lively Hope District Brotherhood. He actively sought ways to deepen and expand his service to the Lord so he moved his membership to True Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend David L. Jones. When becoming a member, Eddy took on the additional responsibility of becoming the Finance Clerk. Brother Jones faithfully served the Lord through his church work until his health prevented him from doing so. Eddy was preceded in death by his parents; Eddie Jones and Sarah Jefferson Jones (Lewis); five brothers: Belvin Ardis Jones, Jackie Winifred Jones, Jerry Williams, Rayman Lewis, and Robert "Bobby" Lewis. He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife, Wanda Theriot Jones; two sons: Marcus Lyle Jones of Midland, TX; Michael LeWayne (Peggy) Jones of Lafayette, LA; and one step-daughter: Kimberly Coleman (Louis) Clotman of Philadelphia, PA.; four grandchildren: Megan LeShawn Jones, Kameron Michael Jones, Quinn Catherine Clotman and Toi Antionette Scott; two sisters: Mary Lou Johnson of Middletown, RI; Erma Jean (John) Slaughter of Atlanta, GA; one brother: Lee Earl (Joanne) Williams of Tucson, AZ; one goddaughter: Brittany Nicole Abraham of Fontana, CA: Confidante and Friend for over thirty years: Brother Richard Marshall, and a host of nieces and nephews.
