Douglas (Doug) Eugene Maddox, son of Carlos and Gertrude Maddox, died peacefully in his home on July, 24, 2016. He is survived by Bonnie Maddox, his loving wife of 36 years, and his son Shawn Maddox of Houston, Texas. He also has two children by marriage, Tonita Watt of Avinger, Texas, and Greg Barnes of Houston, Texas. He has a brother Dr. Jim Maddox and his wife Marge of Savannah, Georgia. He was Papa Doug to 4 grandchildren, Stuart, Caitlin, Zoe, Max and nephews Jason and Brian.
Doug was born in Akron, Ohio and grew up around Portage Lakes. He graduated from Coventry High School. During his High School years he volunteered with the Summitt County search and rescue squad which triggered a lifetime passion for diving. He left Ohio to become a commercial diver in the Gulf of Mexico. He continued his profession in the Gulf until an accident prevented him from ever diving again and his career took a new turn. He began raising bird dogs and participating in a Field Trial Business which led him to Leesburg, Georgia. While working there he met Bonnie and they were married. After his long recuperation from the accident, he ended his Field Trial Business and took a sales job in Houston in the oil and gas industry.
Doug was an avid reader. He also was a memorabilia collector and a billiards master who was chosen to referee tournaments in Las Vegas. He loved football and heated conversations about most topics. He was a connoisseur of cheese and smoked meats. He loved hamburgers, fajitas, mayonnaise and sweet relish (his favorite condiments).
Doug was loved by all of his family and friends. He will be missed very much.
