Dorothy Lois Lewis was born on December 5, 1935 to R.T. and Alberta Parker of Nacogdoches, Tx. She was one of six children to this union which included: Lee Bertha Wade (deceased), Annie Ruth Gregory, Harold Parker (deceased), Robert James Parker (Helen) and Rose Katheryn Forney.
She attended E. J. Campbell High School and Memorial Hospital Nursing Program (graduated as Licensed Vocational Nurse).
Dorothy united in marriage to Harvey Lewis (deceased) - 1955 until his death in 2017 - 61 years. To that union were born 5 children, Peggy (Homer), Donald (deceased), Harvey (deceased) Billy, Jacqueline (Larry); 4 grandchildren, Niccole (Pierre), Justin (April), Jeremiah, Sarah (Joshua); 14 great grandchildren: Alexis, Deion, Sonja, Izaiah, Donovan, Kamri, Jaiden, Zaniyah, Amiyah, Matthew, Nyarai, Devon, Jayce, Lillian; 3 great great grandchildren, D’Anthony, Damian, Londyn.
She worked at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston and Pediatric Specialty Care. As a licensed vocational nurse she worked at Texas Children’s Hospital for 17 years. Her passion for children lead her into a career change to pediatric healthcare. In that capacity her longest tenure was with the Van family for 20 years. Caring and loving on two handsome boys and the entire family.
Dorothy was a member of Harmonia Baptist Church (Nacdogoches) until moving to Houston in her twenties, where she continued her service to Christ. She was member of Fallbrook Church and was in regular attendance in worship service and Women’s Tuesday morning Bible study until her health declined.
One of her greatest joys was the traditional family dinner on Sunday after church where she cooked an abundance of food to feed family or any guest that would drop by. She was frequently heard saying “don’t leave all that food here, take a plate”.
She was an avid game show watcher, it did not matter which game show, she loved solving puzzles and answering questions.
Her greatest joy above all else was family, her definition of family was not just by blood genetics but by love, her capacity to love extended way beyond blood relations if there was a need she could fill to make someone’s life easier she would.
One of her favorite sayings when she notice someone was being beside themselves “God does not like ugly and he is not to fond of pretty” in other words get your act together.
Dorothy’s love and laughter will be missed.
