Dorothy Mae (Allison) Heffernan, 91, of Alvin, Texas, passed away on October 14, 2024. She was born in Houston, Texas on November 23, 1932, to Clement L. Hluchan and Emma Dee Hluchan. Dorothy graduated from Kingsville High School. She met Luther Allison in the spring of 1951 and married on August 11, 1951, in Kingsville, Texas. After Luther passed away in 1993, Dorothy remarried Shannon Heffernan in September 1994.
Dorothy followed a passion for journalism and began writing for local newspapers in Crowley, Louisiana and Rayne, Louisiana. Her new column was called “Dots and Dashes”. Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star in Crowley, Louisiana. Mom had a passion for shopping at the Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Palais Royal and Hobby Lobby. She also loved Bingo, Scrabble, The Wheel of Fortune, and The Price Is Right. Dorothy loved to read her bible everyday and was an amazing prayer warrior. Many people knew her as The Purple Lady as she loved all things purple.
Dorothy was well known for sending out birthday cards and holiday cards to family and friends. She also loved eating sweets even though she was not supposed to have them. Mom had a special pet cat named Little Bit that she loved very much.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Emma Hluchan; first husband, Luther A. Allison, Jr.; second husband, Bernard Shannon Heffernan; Son Luther A. Allison III; Siblings Elsie Collins, Mary Tuttle, and Alice Keopke; father-in-law Luther Allison; mother-in-law Myrtle Allison; son-in-law Johnny Skero.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters; Linda Trahan and husband Richard; Patricia Dartez and husband Mike; Donna Nichols and husband Mike; daughter-in-law Sally Allison; twelve grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Mickey Trahan, Chance Trahan, John Skero, John Mutchler, Michael Mutchler, and Dylan Greenough. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Joey Allison and Richard Trahan Jr.
Dorothy had many special friends the Alvin Senior Center, Alvin Missionary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church New Waverly. A special thanks to the staff at Laurel Court Skilled Nursing Home and friends.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm, Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Chapel of the Chimes, Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas with services beginning at 1:30. Graveside Services will be held directly after at Brookside Memorial Park.
