On January 7, 1942, Doris Betty Jo Ray Prince was born in Brenham, Texas to Gladys Rodgers and Rufus Ray. By age 10, Doris relocated with her family to the Studewood area of Houston, Texas. Doris accepted our Lord and Savior early in life and was a firm believer in Jesus Christ.
She met and married the love of her life, Charles Prince and spent 56 years as his devoted wife until his death in 2018. Together, they raised three beautiful daughters: Cheryl, Charlotte and Cathy. She loved being a mother and ensured her children were well loved and supported throughout their lives.
The only thing she loved as much as being a wife and mom was being a grandmother. She had a heart of gold that extended beyond her immediate family to her neighbors, church and anyone who crossed her path in the Acres Home community. She worked as a caretaker and a loving nanny for children in her family and community. She was an active member of Greater Faith Baptist Church before finding her final church home at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be remembered for the hearts she touched by being obedient to God’s call to serve others in need.
Doris made her transition from this earthly life to eternal rest on Monday, November 11, 2024. In the end, she “fought the good fight, finished the race and always kept her faith”. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Prince, her sister, Clarice Norris, her father, Rufus Ray and her stepfather, Clint Rodgers.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her mother, Gladys Rodgers, three children: Cheryl Blanton (Craig), Charlotte Prince, and Cathy Upshaw; her grandchildren: April Trossbach (Andy), Krystal Upshaw (Philip), Amy Sanford and Kenneth Upshaw Jr.; her great-grandchildren: Donald Litteral, Gauge Trossbach, and Kairo Upshaw; her grand dogs, Winter, Pepper and Gunner as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
