Doris Castleberry, a loving wife and sister, caring mother and proud grandmother passed away on October 10, 2022. Doris was born on March 14, 1941 in Freer, Texas. She was the glue that bonded our families together – always the first to coordinate special occasions and adoring every moment she got to celebrate with loved ones. She was the greatest cheerleader one could ask for, selfless and beyond generous. Doris was a devout Christian and she loved her family and the Lord wholeheartedly. Doris was a beautiful soul who wasn’t afraid to love others fiercely and unconditionally. Doris was a firecracker – strong willed, fun and vibrant, from her colorful clothing to elaborate jewelry. While she never sugarcoated her opinions, her gift of being unapologetically herself made her all the more lovable.
Doris’s educational and professional accomplishments are a testament to her grit, resilience and strength. She graduated from Bellaire High School and attended college at The University of Texas at Austin, for about a year. Soonafter, she moved back home to Houston and graduated from Massey Business College where she specialized in typing, shorthand and bookkeeping. She met her first husband, Tom Scott and together they had two children Troy Scott and Tami Franklin, her pride and joy. Later she met Robert in Mexico – her best friend and husband of 30 years. Their life included lots of happy adventures including loving on their grandchildren, traveling with friends and investing in fishing properties.
Doris had many passions, interests and gifts including oil painting, gardening, cooking, bargain shopping, stamping with friends, volunteering at church, bible studies, sewing, gift giving and more. Her greatest gift of all was the way she loved others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Jim Arch Hendon; her first husband, Tom Scott; her sister, Bobbie Wottring and her baby brother James Hendon. She is survived by her husband, Robert Castleberry, her children Troy Scott; Tami Franklin (and spouse Scott); her step children Keith Castleberry (and spouse Kandy) and Sandy Jenkins, her grandchildren Hayden Franklin (and fiancé Kelly) and Kelly Franklin, Kyle (and spouse Alex), Cody, and Lindsey Jenkins and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
