Dora was born on July 12,1930 in Houston, TX to Blas LaMadrid and Victoria Trevino LaMadrid.
She received her Diploma in Nursing in 1952 from Jefferson Davis Hospital, School of Nursing. She graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Nursing from University of Houston in 1960. Over her 45 year career in Nursing, Dora worked at Jefferson Davis Hospital, where she was Director of Nursing, and Memorial Hermann Hospital-Southeast and spent 10 years as a school nurse with Deer Park I.S.D at J.P. Dabbs Elementary. Dora loved being a nurse. Even after she retired, she was the local medical resource of her neighborhood. Whenever people were in need, Dora was there with compassion. She looked out for others and was respected for her knowledge. Dora was loved by her community, whether that was at work, church, in the neighborhood or extended family. Whenever she walked into the room, there was instantly more energy and enthusiasm. She never met a stranger and always was inclusive and loving.
She was a dedicated and faithful member of Friendswood United Methodist church for 20 years and previously a member of Park Place United Methodist Church for many years before that. She had a very close relationship with Jesus and was a woman of great faith, which shone through in the way she lived her life. She sang in the church choir and gave of herself in a variety of ways. Singing praise to her Lord was one of Dora’s favorite ways to worship. Not only did she love hymns, but she also enjoyed classical music and Broadway musicals.
