I only knew Gene through his sister Terri and stories shared and now a bit through reading the other entries. God extended his love through the Landry family- who give a great deal of themselves for others and make the world a better place. We will remember and try to carry on the flicker of light you have shown.

Gene, you will never be forgotten, The way you could light up a room or make me (and other people) smile was unmatched. If someone did not love you it was because they simply never had the privilege of meeting you. I love you Little Brother!

You are one of the few people, Gene, who really touched me deeply. Those piercing eyes and quiet, sincere voice...you always took the time to talk to an old lady and make her feel important. I'll miss our talks in the corner with you [and usually Dusty] where no one could hear. The energy of the world has changed and not for the better. Say hi to Jimmy for me.

I met Gene in 1999 at the Texas Renaissance Festival.  Going by the way he treated me, I don't think he ever met a stranger.  He was warm and kind and encouraging to everyone around him.  

I had been struggling for years with the desire to join the Entertainment Company, but felt uncomfortable with it.  I don't think I would have had the nerve to audition but for his words of encouragement.  Even though we grew apart after he left the festival, I thought about him often and always regarded him as a friend.    

The world is that much poorer without him.

I am so sorry for the Loss of this Great Man!! He has always had a smile for everyone. He was always there if you were hurting with a gentle but firm hug. I along with all of the Houston Community he belonged too will have a hole in our hearts for years to come.  RIP Gene(Daddy Bear)

We loved Gene. He was a business mentor to us and a true friend who we will never forget. What a sweet man!

Gene will be missed by so many and there are really no words to express the impact this man had on people - ALL people - that came into his light every day.  He knew NO strangers, had a big loving heart, and accomplished things other believed impossible.  To know him was to love him and admire him.  He encouraged everyone to be WHO they ARE and be PROUD to be that person inside of them.  There are not enough words to express the deep loss that our world has experienced with his passing.  He had a light inside of him that warmed others and made him glow.  What a fabulous friend you were Gene.  Rest in Peace.

I'm still at a loss for words. Gene Landry came into my life unexpectedly but with much love and support. He not only became my counter-part but a true friend. I will treasure the memories he, Dustin and I made. Love always and forever.

I still am in bewilderment of Gene being gone from our community and the loss that we all will suffer because of his departure.   I have to believe that he was needed elsewhere.  He provided a great foundation for his work and kindness to be eternal.  This is the part of Gene that will carry on in each person that he knew and who's lives he touched.

We met the Landry family through the Waltrip Band program.  We all shared everything band and what our kids were doing in high school.  Lisa, Gene and Terrie formed a tight friendship that has lasted all these years!  It is with a "Mother's heart" that I remember Gene.  He called me Mom and I loved him.  What a sweet, funny guy!  What a legacy you have left us Gene!  You will never be replaced! RIP

I cannot believe this is real. Gene was always such a pleasure to be around. I'll certainly miss his smiling face when I visit Houston. RIP my friend. <3

Daddy Gene as many of us knew him was my "Daddy" (Daddy of Montrose) during my year as girl of Montrose. He carried a passion in himself to give back & help others in need whenever he could. He raised money for several charities of his choice, Texas Equality being one during his year as Daddy of Montrose. I'll greatly miss him & his wonderful bear hugs. My wish for all of you that knew & loved him is peace.

My heart goes out to the family - losing Gene has been a great impact upon us all.  His light and love will live on in all of us.  My Condolences to all.

Rarely in this life do you find a man like Gene.
He was an original and true friend. I always enjoyed seeing him out. The man could light up a room. He had a wicked sense of humor and always made me laugh.
I will truly miss him.
This world will be a little darker without his light.

Gene was one of those people who came into your life like a force of nature. He had a magnetic pull that drew you in, and before you knew it, you were along for the ride. Always with a smirk and a twinkle in his eye, you never knew what mischief you were in for, but it was always legendary. He was inspiring. Always inspiring you to be better. And, you found you wanted to be better. He brought that out in people. He was a unifier, he could make things happen, and make people share a vision. But, always with that indomitable sense of humor I grew to love so dearly. Gene, you made me a better person. I am lucky to have been your friend.

I met Gene at F.M. Black, in 6th grade, the fall of 1980.  Some of my favorite memories of him are at Waltrip, in our Drama class.  
I kept in touch with him by Facebook, thru the last few years.
Gene was a kind person.  I never remember him 'mad' at anyone or anything.
I am still stunned to hear of his passing.  
We lost a great person, a kind person, and a good friend.

I am so sorry to hear about losing Gene. My memories of Gene are from many years ago as we shared experiences as members of The Cougar Band. Gene was so creative and had such a vibrant personality....and he was always a happy face to see. My thoughts and prayers for him and his family.
