Don M. Noble

Don lived with his family in Tyler for the first three years of his life where his father worked for the Gulf Oil Company. In August of 1943, the family followed his father’s new job with the Deep Rock Oil Company to Houston and they lived with Don’s paternal grandparents in the Heights where Don attended Cooley Elementary.

The family eventually built their own home in West University in 1948, and Don attended West University Elementary, Pershing and Lanier Middle Schools and Lamar High School, class of 1959. Don attended The University of Texas in 1959 and pledged Sigma Chi fraternity. He later transferred to and graduated from Texas Christian University with a Business Degree in 1964. Upon graduation, Don returned to Houston where his father helped him start as a landman.

On the 16th of March 1966, Don married Sherrill Ann Borden. They had one son, Milam Borden Noble, in 1967.

Don served in various independent roles in the oil and gas industry. He eventually joined Crew Land Research Group in Houston in the Fall of 1988. Don continued his career at Crew Land Research Group for 25 years until his retirement in 2013. Upon retirement, he remained a constant presence for weekly lunches and visits with his Crew Land Research family.

Don was an avid reader, especially of history and politics. He also loved horses and rode “like a Comanche.” He had a valued circle of friends from Lamar whom he often saw and communicated with. His intelligence, kindness, and sense of humor uplifted everyone he met.

Don passed away in Houston on Monday, the 5th of February 2024 after a brief illness. He was 83 years of age.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Willis Cullen Noble Jr., and Nina Marjorie Noble; his brother, Larry G. Noble; his wife, Sherrill Borden Noble; and his son, Milam Borden Noble. He is survived by his horse “Nip,”; his adopted families of, Chris and Kim Zander, Matthew and Kim Zander, Fiona Campbell and Ernest Muniz; as well as a large circle of friends and Crew Land Research co-workers.

A Memorial Service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 1st of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. To honor Don’s wishes, guests are kindly asked to dress in western casual attire and no ties.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held at a venue to be announced during the service.
