Diane E. Barrett, 66, passed away on March 11, 2021 in Houston, Texas, surrounded and comforted by her family. Diane was born October 12, 1954, in Lakewood, Ohio. She moved with her family to San Antonio and later South Houston before settling in Alief in 1967. She graduated from Alief High School as the Salutatorian in May 1972. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from Southwest Texas State University, graduating with highest honors. Subsequent education included receiving a master’s degree in Chorale Conducting from Rice University in 1988. Diane was a teacher as well as a paraprofessional in the Alief Independent School District. She also worked in the Alief Evening School alongside her mother. She later served her church as an office assistant.
Her passion for music permeated her life. She served as choir director for multiple churches and directed numerous cantatas. She also created and led a community choir in Alief. They performed at several local churches and businesses around the Houston area.
Diane had a deep reverence for the Lord. She volunteered at her local church as a teacher in children’s ministry. She also devoted much of her time to several outreach ministries, including nursing homes and an inner-city homeless shelter. She was known as a kind and soft-spoken person, loved deeply by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Juanell Dresing. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Wesley Barrett; daughter, Corey Titcomb and husband, Andrew; grandchildren, Gracen, Aubrie and Elise; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11am at the Embassy Church, 2512 Ave N, Rosenburg, Texas 77471.
