Devang was born on November 19, 1988, in Houston, to Nirmala and Bharat Shah. He grew up in Alief, where he excelled throughout school, winning Most Outstanding Student at Elsik High School. He then went to his beloved University of Texas at Austin, graduating with honors from the McCombs School of Business (\m/). He loved UT and Austin, where he not only did well in school, but served as a mentor to other students and thrived as a friend and brother to many. It was in college that he grew his love of travel, spending a semester studying abroad in Hong Kong. He was also a member of the business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi.
After college, Devang led a successful career in finance, working for major companies in Austin and Houston, cultivating strong relationships and leaving a huge impact on everyone with whom he worked.
Devang had a big smile and an even bigger heart. Some of his favorite hobbies included being an early adopter of every new tech gadget known to man, traveling to new exotic places, and eating the spiciest food he could find. Even with all his professional successes, he was most proud of his relationships with everyone around him, especially as Kaka to his two nieces and nephew, all of whom he loved as if they were his own children. He was an exceptionally loving son to his parents in a way that impressed everyone around him. After his mother suffered from a major stroke, he cared for her as if it was his full-time job, implementing a recovery plan for her that astonished even the doctors and nurses. He was selfless and loved helping others, never hesitating to do anything for his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving parents, his older brother, Jayesh, who was not just his brother but also like a second father to him, his sister-in-law, Nan, and his adoring nieces and nephew, Nina, Naya, and Niko. He loved Sheela and the Gavvala Family and was the best dog dad to Mango. He is also survived by family in India, including his grandmother, Ushaben Shah. Devang is also loved by a large and loud family of cousins, aunts, and uncles in the Shah, Gosar, and Puthaaroon families. He was truly the heart of our family, organizing family get-togethers and vacations. A master planner (and expert at peer pressure), he ensured that all we ever had to do was show up and have fun. He brought us closer together and made us better as a family. No matter if it was a standard birthday or the birth of a new niece or nephew, he knew how to make everything a celebration. He was the life of every party, and we will never forget his antics or the special jokes he had for each and every one of us. He was charming, kind, and a total goofball, acting like a giant kid with all the children in his family. All of us were on the receiving end of giant bear hugs and big kisses on our cheeks, especially those of us who thought it was gross.
Devang’s light shined bright, and his charisma for life was infectious. Devang made us better people, and he will be forever loved and missed. May his soul rest in peace, and may we always carry his legacy of love and giving for others and his joy for life.
