Delores Ann Kennerson was born on October 11, 1946, the third child to the union of Eva Thibodeaux Amos and Joseph Allen Amos. She was baptized at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, Louisiana under the guidance of her loving Godparents Beatrice Duplechain and Clement Gabe Amos.Delores Amos married Perkin J. Kennerson in 1972 and gave birth to her only child\Remi (Jennifer) Kennerson in 1973.She and her then-husband resided in Opelousas and were married for approximately 3 years before divorcing. She never remarried and was an active single parent to her only daughter.Delores and her daughter moved to the north end of Opelousas, in a neighborhood called Carlton. As an Opelousas native and proud “North end” resident, she became very well-known in the community and most people called her Ms. Dee. Delores had a keen eye for interior design. She could look at something and imagine how she wanted it, and she would do it in a heartbeat. Her home was always beautiful and her yard was
immaculate.
To Delores, the friendship of family and neighbors was everything – she cherished all of them. She never met a stranger and would talk to everyone. She was generous and always wanted to give you something before you left her home. Not only was she a giver, she had glowing personality. She was the best entertainer and dancer in the family. She proclaimed herself to be the #1 dancer in St. Landry Parish and you couldn’t tell her anything different.She had a fierce spirit. She could tell you off and be your friend the next minute. She spoke her mind and then moved on. She did not dwell on things.A faithful Catholic and true to her spiritual upbringing, Delores was a proud member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
Her memories will forever be cherished by her only daughter, Remi “Jennifer”Kennerson (Tiffany) of Houston, TX. Honorary Grandson, McKenzie D. Thomas of Opelousas, LA. Six Sisters, Doris Lemelle (Ronald), Margaret Barnaba (Patrick) Mercy Lee (Sidney), & Janice Amos all of Opelousas, LA. Irma Allen of Carencro, LA, Hilda Amos of Lafayette, LA. and one brother John Murphy Amos (Brenda) of Houston, TX.,and her first cousin, who was reared together as sisters, Isabella Broussard Casimere Thompson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Delores was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph Allen Amos and Eva Amos, brother Joseph Herman Amos, brother in law Gerald Allen, one Godson Jerald Keith Casimere.
