David was born to Manuel and Helen, November 14, 1944, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Charles H. Milby High School in 1964. He married Frances Vargas on June 8, 1968, and they lived together in Houston, TX. Together they raised 3 children.
David worked as a Master Machinist for Baker Hughes (formerly Hughes Tool Company) for 38 years. He enjoyed building special projects, he was a handy man and liked keeping up with whatever needed repair around the home and was in the process of restoring our very first car, a 1967 Mustang. He was a loving father and loved to travel with his family, visiting relatives and friends in different parts of the country.
He was very interested in getting information about his brother Frank's fate as to where he went missing in the Korean War on 11/27/1950. Frank and two other men were positioned at the northernmost point closest to the Chinese border in North Korea. Together we were able to find 10-12 Veterans that had served with him in the Army in Peace Time in Japan, 1948, before the Korean War broke out. This was a great comfort to him to meet and know his brother’s friends! He was also actively involved in The American Legion Hall #472, The National Korean War Veterans Assn, and The Korean War Veterans - Texas Lone Star Chapter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances (Vargas) Velasco. He also leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Virginia Ann Torres, son-in-law, Miguel Angel Torres, son, David Vincent Velasco, daughter, Dorothy Deanna Rodriguez, son-in-law, Timothy Rey Rodriguez and three grandchildren, Cecilia Maria (Ceci) Torres, Miguel Angel Torres, Jr. and Ambriella Rae (Amby) Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Velasco, his mother, Helen Ayala Velasco, brothers Ruben A. Velasco, Fred A. Velasco, Frank A. Velasco (MIA 1950 -Korean War) and his two sisters, Nelda A. Zepeda and Helen A. Vargas.
