David was born October 2, 1947 in Houston, TX to Hortense Franco Cortez and the late Thomas Cortez. He attended Jefferson Davis High School and graduated in 1965. He then served in the United States Air Force where he took his basic training at Lenox in San Antonio. In 1969, he was stationed at Grisson AFB in Peru, Indiana. Later, he was stationed in the Philippines where he met his future wife, Felicidad (Fely) Cariaso. Together they had one son, David Jr. and then relocated back to Houston, TX to start their lives as a family. David was always so proud of his family and lived his life to protect and provide shelter for them.
David is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Cortez. He is survived in death by his beloved wife, Felicidad Cariaso Cortez, Son, David Cortez Jr., Grandsons, Andrew Cortez and wife Jennifer Ramirez Cortez, Jonathan Cortez, and Great Grandchildren, Sebastian Toledo Castillo, Nevaeh Lynn Cortez, and Avery Josephine Cortez. He is also survived by his Mother, Hortense Franco Cortez, Brothers, Louis Cortez and wife Mary, Roland Cortez Sr. and wife Anna, and Sisters, Sylvia Sepulveda, Alma Luera, Nancy Ramirez and husband George, and Alice Olivas. David is also survived by numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
The family will receive family and friends from 6-7pm for visitation and a rosary service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 11:30am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 State Highway 249, Houston, TX 77070. Interment to follow at 1:45pm at the Houston National Cemetery (AKA Veterans Memorial Cemetery), 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
