On Thursday, April 8, 2010, Cyril Maida, age 88, went home to be with his Heavenly Father. Cyril was born in Houston, Texas August 24, 1921 as the first child of Frank and Angeline Maida. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Grace and Rosalee, and brother, MH Maida Sr. Cyril is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Maida and by their four children Johnie, Mike, Cindy and Steve. Cyril was dearly loved by his 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Cyril is a 1939 graduate of Reagan High School. He proudly served his country during World War II on the Naval Fighting Ship, the Sterope. As part of the Pacific Fleet, his job was to shuttle supplies to advanced bases in Guam and Okinawa. After returning from the war, Cyril continued his job at Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked as a quality control supervisor when he retired after 41 years of service. He is also a member of the American Legion Post 416. Cyril’s two great passions in life were his family and deer hunting. He was happiest when he was at his deer ranch, surrounded by his sons, grandsons, and his hunting buddies. Cyril will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. A memorial will be held celebrating his life and legacy. Family and friends are invited to Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Monday, April 12, 2010 for visitation from 5-8pm and praying of the Holy Rosary at 7pm. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10am at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 1530 Norwalk Katy, TX 77450. Services will continue with Cyril being taken to his final resting place and given full military honors at Forest Park Lawndale’s Garden of Gethsemane.
