Clint lived life to the fullest. He loved his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He was so proud of them all and never missed an opportunity to talk about them. He loved Baylor University, Tallowood Baptist Church, and the Tallowood Choir. He was known for his humor, laughter, gift of song, through singing and playing the piano and never meeting a stranger. He used these gifts God gave him to further His kingdom’s work, especially through singing. He touched many lives through music.
Clint grew up in Waco, Texas and graduated from Waco High School in 1958. He then went to Baylor University, where he was a member of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from Baylor University in 1962 and continued to be a devoted alum and avid sports fan. After graduating from Baylor, he married the love of his life, Susan Smith. They built their life in Houston, and he started his CPA firm, Bateman & Co. For 50 years, he served others and used his gifts by providing financial guidance and tax services to his clients whom he considered close friends. As a married couple, they formed lifelong friendships with several couples with whom they raised children and vacationed through the years. Their friends became an extension of their family. He also traveled to London often and helped with expatriate services. He had a strong work ethic that gave him success in his career, a remarkable memory for dates and numbers, and a giant heart for everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Susan Smith Bateman; daughter, Stacie Crowson of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Will Driskell of Waco; daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Michael McDuffie of Houston. He was affectionally known as “Papa” to his five grandchildren: Hailey Crowson, Blake and Rachel Driskell, and Marshall and Matthew McDuffie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Dr., Houston, Texas on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 1 p.m.
