Charles King Hadley

Charles, or “King,” as he was affectionately known, was a lifelong Houstonian and the only child of Marion King Hadley and Thelma Josephine Hadley of Houston, both of whom precede him in death, as does a half-sister, Billie Jo (Felix) Stehling of San Antonio. He was a graduate of Bellaire High School, class of 1957, and served in the U.S. Army as a medic before going on to graduate from the University of Houston. Enjoying a long, successful, and varied working career, King spent time in the mortgage, insurance, pharmaceutical, restaurant, and dental equipment industries.

King met and married the love of his life, Jane, in 1974. With their marriage, he was blessed with three beautiful and loving stepdaughters: Lee Ann, Karen, and Joan Maple. The couple was further blessed with a son, Stewart, in 1975.

In addition to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, King was a kind, friendly, giving man with an easy smile and a great sense of humor. Always considerate of others, he was generous with his time and efforts. He had a great love and knowledge of sports, baseball and golf in particular. He played in his youth and coached his and other children in later years, for which he is fondly remembered.

The Hadley family wishes to thank the doctors and medical staffs of Memorial Hermann Memorial City and Kindred Hospital Town and Country for the excellent care provided Mr. Hadley in his last months.

Mr. Hadley is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jane Stewart Hadley; son Stewart King Hadley; stepdaughters Lee Ann Maple (Doylton) Davis, Karen Maple (Juan) Perez, and Joan Maple (Richard) Hixon; nephew Lynn and wife Suzie Moody of San Antonio; grandchildren Megan Davis Cools and Paige Davis, Michael Paul and Jane Saunders, Andrew Lewis, and Jack, Helen, and Hazel Hixon; and great grandchildren Caleb and Carter Cools.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25th from 9-10 AM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston. A graveside service will follow, where Pastor Ben Lohmer of Sugar Land United Methodist Church will officiate.
