Charles Franklin Doyle was born in Fort Worth, grew up in Dallas, and eventually made his home in Houston with his beloved wife, Sylvia Ann Doyle. On Saturday, the 27th of October 2012, Charles passed from life to life at age 73.
He attended S.M.U. where he graduated with a B.A. in History. He was a pony fan all of his life. After graduation, he attended Berkeley Divinity School at Yale where he graduated with a M.Div. in 1964. He served as an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Springfield, the Diocese of Texas, and he served in Mexico. He was a great preacher. He was a peaceful man who was an advocate for civil rights and women's ordination. He believed the church should serve the poor. He loved to fish.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Virginia McNeil Doyle; father, John Wadsworth Doyle; and sister, Diane Marie Doyle Jarrett. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Ann Illingworth Doyle; his sister, Kathleen Louise Doyle Hilton and husband, Bob, and niece, Stephanie; and by his brother-in-law, Frank Ed Jarrett, niece, Anna; and nephew, Matthew Hiram Illingworth. He is also survived by his three sons and their families: Charles Andrew and his wife, JoAnne Pearson Doyle, and their children, Caisa and Zoë; Stephen Patrick and his wife, Teresa Ferguson Doyle, and their children, Hannah and Tate; and by Michael Christopher and his wife, Christina Baker Doyle, and their children, Case and Camden.
A memorial service, celebrating his life, is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 3rd of November, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 15015 Memorial Drive in Houston, where the Rev. Janie Kirt Morris, Rector, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Parish Hall.
