Charles Eugene Cook

He retired after serving as a principal owner of Pan Tech Engineering in Sugar Land, Texas, where he began his career in 1971 as a instrumentation salesman to the petrochemical industry throughout the Texas Gulf Coast. Charlie was the soul who never met someone with whom he couldn't strike up an immediate conversation. During and after retirement he spent much of his time in Rockport and Bayou Vista, where he and his wife shared a townhome and a canal house. He enjoyed his time on the Gulf Coast of Texas with his family and the friends made along the way. He spent his time serving on several homeowner organizations and with SCORE, a small business development group, lending his expertise and knowledge from years in the business world. He also volunteered his time with several hostel groups, building infrastructure development for underdeveloped communities in North and Central America.

Charlie was a thoughtful, kind, and supportive man to many people in this world. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Charlie was born to James Madison Cook and Lillian Hindman on June 7, 1938 in Fort Scott, KS. His father worked in a garment factory producing work trousers and coveralls and his mother worked as a seamstress in apparel. When the garment factory closed operations in Fort Scott, his family moved to Kansas City, KS. This is where he continued his primary education, graduating from Westport High School in 1956. He met his life long wife and partner while playing saxophone, she playing piano, in their high school band at the “Tiger Den” in the gymnasium of Westport High School in Kansas City, MO. Charlie was the first in his family to attend college, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry at The University of Kansas City in 1963. While working in a lab producing what he later found out was the components to mustard gas for the US Military, he was offered and accepted a position with MSA and relocated he and Marilyn to Greensburg, PA where they adopted their first two children, James and Jennifer. In 1971, Charlie was hired by Glenn Doorflinger of Pan Tech Engineering as a salesman and relocated again, this time to Houston, Texas where they had a son, Matthew in the spring of 1974.

Charles Cook was preceded in death by his parents, James Madison Cook and Lillian Hindman, and several family members from his extended married family. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Marilyn, their children, Jennifer, James, and Matthew and grandchildren Darrald, Ryan, Ashley, Allison, and twins Charles and Christian.

The Cook family would like to thank the loving care provided to Charlie during his last days of life by the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice in Houston, Texas.

A memorial will be held on January 28, 2023 at 11am in the chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas.
