My name is Jim Reynolds. I played football with Charles at AHS under Coach Phillips and my senior I year moved to Los Angeles.  As with Charles, coach Phillip prepare me for football and I receive a scholarship to UCLA. You two were a great couple and I enjoyed the times we socially were together. I was dating Jan Thompson at the time.

It was my great good fortune to work for Charles Berry as a paralegal in his Environmental Section of Vinson Elkins law firm.  He took a chance on hiring a middle-aged person with no legal experience except a recent graduate certificate from Southwestern Paralegal Institute, and many years prior as an international geologist.  He was a wonderful boss – intelligent, interesting, caring, decisive, helpful in so many ways.  So much so that I worked for him till I was 70!  His death saddens me so very much, and I shall always remember him with fondness, great respect, and much admiration.

I worked with Charles for almost twenty years in the Environmental Section at Vinson & Elkins.  He was an outstanding litigator who handled almost all of our environmental litigation.  I was always proud to call Charles one of my partners.  Smart, hardworking, fun to be around lawyers like Charles were what made Vinson & Elkins such a great place to work.

Charles and I became friends on the practice tee at Shadow Hawk. So many great stories about being a young lawyer in Houston. Especially entertaining were the stories about Percy Foreman at the Red Baron downtown. Charles Berry was a fine man.

Charles Berry built a community of lawyers and legal professionals in the administrative and environmental law practice at V&E that will long survive him, and so will our memories and gratitude.  I left my home state of Virginia to move half way across the country and start my practice in the AEL group at V&E, drawn by the warm welcome and the support and opportunities I knew I would receive working for Charles and the entire department.  It took me a few years to realize he calls everyone by their full name - so from me -- Kimberly --thank you Charles.  You were an amazing leader, mentor, teacher, colleague, and role model.  To your family, I can't imagine the loss.  We were lucky you shared him with us.

I had the privilege of working with Charles during the Golden Age of Vinson & Elkins.  He was a great lawyer and we practiced law hard.  But, it was fun and we did it the right way.  When Vinson & Elkins said something, judges, clients, and opposing lawyers believed it because people like Charles would not have had  it any other way.  I always knew that I had unconditional support when I got to work on a matter with Charles.  I will miss Charles.  He was special.

What a great guy.  He did it all with style and Louise by his side

Dear Louise, our deepest condolences to you and your family. You were deeply loved by Charles and we often talked about you in the 35 yrs I knew him. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply too. We compared many notes as he and I were the same age. We, Benny and Irma, loved him dearly too as he was a great customer who referred all his friend to me. We will do our best to be there. Ok?  If you need anything, we are here for you. To the Family of Charles Berry:  I am so very sorry for your loss.  I worked for Charles in El Paso and then when I moved to Houston in 1986 he was kind enough to encourage me to apply at Vinson & Elkins where I worked in his AEL section for 20 years.  Charles was a kind and generous man who had a a good sense of humor.  He was a joy to work with and he will be greatly missed.
