Charlene McVey

Charlene McVey passed away on the 30th of April 2012, at the age of 77. She was born on the 9th of December 1934, in Madisonville, Texas, the only daughter of George and Lois McVey, both of whom preceded Charlene in death.

During her youth, Charlene's family moved throughout Texas, and Charlene attended 25 schools during her childhood. Immediately after graduating from high school, Charlene got on a bus and came to Houston, where she resided ever since. She attended the University of Houston and worked for a real estate company, where she became a real estate broker. In the early 1970's, Charlene went to work for the Canter family and Canter Estates, where she was the bookkeeper and one-person office administrator until her retirement in 2000.

Charlene loved to travel and was a venturesome world traveler, visiting Europe (several times), the Mediterranean, Bangkok, and Hong Kong, among other places. She was also a wonderful friend (and traveling companion) to many, and maintained deep, close friendships which lasted for years, many spanning decades and long distances. Charlene lived in the same residence for 30 years and will be especially missed by her many neighbors, who knew her so well and for so long.

Charlene is survived by her brothers, Larry McVey and Carrel Ray McVey and his wife, Diane Honey McVey of Lakehills, Texas. In addition to her parents, George and Lois McVey, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Kenneth McVey; and her niece, Melissa McVey.

A memorial service is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 7th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Rev. David S. Nelson, Rector of Christ the King Episcopal Church, is to officiate.Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Grand Foyer.
