Charlene Matlock, 77, passed from this life on December 26, 2022. She was welcomed into the Lord’s loving embrace peacefully in her sleep. Charlene was a Loving Sister, Devoted Christian, an Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a friend to so many. She loved generously, limitlessly, and unconditionally.
Charlene was born on February 4, 1945, in Houston, Texas, to the late Sidney Tolliver, Jr and Martha Ruth Pye.
Charlene had a heart large enough for everything and everyone. Her kindness and servant’s heart were evident to all who knew her. She never let a missed opportunity to lend a helping hand at the race track or provide hot meals for the chaplaincy. She loved to spend time with her family, shop, travel and enjoyed her friends who also became family to her at the Sam Houston Race Track where she served as Council President of the Sam Houston Race Track Chaplaincy.
Charlene is survived by her sister, Sylvia Bates and husband Roger; brother, Sidney Tolliver Pye III and wife Jerry; sister, Potty Powers and husband Muncie; brother, Terry Lee Pye and wife LaDonna; brother, Joe Pye and wife Charlotte; numerous nieces and nephews, other friends and family members.
A visitation for Charlene will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A graveside service will occur Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at McKnight Cemetery, McKnight Cemetery Road, Cushing, TX 75760.
Serving as pallbearers are Roger Bates, Casey Powers, Sidney T. Pye IV, Cody Powers, Everett Pye, Muncie Powers Jr., Dan Cole and Tim LaFountain.
