Catherine Beth Merriman, 67, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Methodist Hospital from complications after a double lung transplant.
Cathy was born to Betty and Roy Lee Morris on March 24, 1951, and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas, the second of four children. She graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1969 and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston Downtown in 2002.
She started her professional career as a court reporter in Emporia, Kansas, before relocating to Texas in 1985, when she took time away from her career to raise her two children, Cara and Adam. Later she worked for over a decade in development in both the public and private sector.
Cathy was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church where she belonged to the Encouragers Connection Class, volunteered with the Welcome Team, was a member of the Sugar Creek Finance Committee, worked with the Senior Care Connection, and played piano at the Brookdale Senior Community.
Cathy is survived by Jim Merriman, her husband of 14 years; her daughter, Cara Cullen of Houston, Texas, husband Alastair and their children Hunter, Jillian and Natalie; her son Adam Guy of Springfield, Virginia, wife Sandy and their children Sarah and Ryan; her step-son Dane Merriman of The Woodlands, Texas, wife Kristi and their sons Scyler, Tristan, and Dawson; her step-son Taite Merriman of Newtown, Pennsylvania, wife Melissa and their children Addison and Eli; her mother Betty Morris of Rosenberg; her sisters Sue Etherington and Fran Stoddard and brother Phil Morris, their spouses and children.
She is preceded in death by her father Roy Lee Morris and her previous husband Duane Guy.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life, one that was cherished and well-lived, at 11am on Friday, February 8, 2019, at Sugar Creek Baptist Church Chapel (13213 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478).
