She was born in Santa Ana, California on October 24th, 1958, adored and doted over as the first grandchild and the first of four children of Molly and Leeland Doughty. After graduating from UCLA, Cathy began a successful career in the medical profession. Work brought her to Houston in 1986 where she fell head-over-heels for Hans Huwyler Jr. and his daughter Trudy. Cathy and Hans were blessed with two additional children Stephanie and Thomas “Tommie” who became the loves of her life. After the children had grown, Cathy found another love, Bailey, her loyal canine companion.
Cathy was an infectious blaze of energy, bringing light and laughter to every undertaking. Cathy taught herself to play guitar and became an avid member of numerous praise and worship bands over the years at Faith, St. James, and Holy Cross Lutheran Churches. She developed a passion for Porsches. As a member of the Lone Star Region Porsche Club of America, her car “Sammie” won 2nd place in the Concour d’Elegance in 2019. After throwing herself into knitting, Cathy started a business called Hats A Go Go. Cathy was not only passionate for life, she was also a woman of faith. Through her religious studies she found many friends and opportunities to give back to her community.
Cathy always valued higher education. She graduated with a Master of Science in BioMedical Informatics from the University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics. During her studies Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through her recovery she wrote an award-winning book titled, “Breast Cancer! You’re Kidding Right?” She was a very private person, but sharing her experience with the goal of helping people navigate and choose the best treatment options brought her much joy.
In addition to her career as Director for Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging, she was a trained Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. She also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor for three universities in their online course offerings. Cathy led her peers and colleagues at UT Health as the Director of Management and Operations of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging with optimism and determination. There was never a problem too big for her to solve. Cathy will be remembered as having a heart the size of Texas, a ferociously quick wit, and solid Christian values. She is survived by her children: Stephanie, Tommie and stepdaughter Trudy, dog Bailey, three siblings and numerous cousins.
Cathy’s children invite family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances to join them in celebrating
