Carol was born on May 20, 1933 in Cumberland, Maryland and grew up on her family's farm in Keifer, Maryland. She attended school in Oldtown, Maryland and excelled in home economics, winning the Oldtown High School's Home Economics Award. After high school, she graduated from Catherman's Business College in Cumberland, Maryland. Then, in 1951, she went to work as a secretary at the University of Maryland. That's where she met her future husband, Floyd. They were married on November 21, 1953 and spent 68 years together.
Carol and Floyd started their lives together in Maryland and throughout the years she focused on raising and loving her children while they lived in many different parts of the country including southern California, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee. In the early 1980’s, after her children graduated from college, Carol started working at Mayo Garden Center in Knoxville, Tennessee where she became the assistant store manager. In 2002 Carol and Floyd retired and moved to Richmond, Texas (near Houston) and lived with her daughter Sandra and her family.
Carol was the keystone of her family and is irreplaceable, but we have learned so much from her. She was a loyal wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wonderful sister. She loved Jesus, the outdoors, gardening, growing beautiful flowers, Christmas and her weekly calls with her brother, Randall. Her main focus was on her family and showing tremendous love and doing everything she could to guide and help them become the best they could be. She generously provided assistance to her family. She was also devoted to and cared for Floyd as his health also declined.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Evelyn Crabtree. Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her husband, Floyd M. Wyatt; children, Sandra and husband Ken Rivet, and Mark and wife Shari Wyatt; grandchildren, Michael and wife Katheryn Rivet, Kelly and husband Charles McRae, James Wyatt and Andrew Wyatt; great grandchildren Aiden Ridgway and Brennan Rivet; brother Randall Crabtree and special friend Nancy Ruffner.
Carol will be buried in the Houston National Cemetery. We look forward to being reunited with her in heaven.
