Born August 2, 1971 in Houston, TX to Howard and Linda (Rodden) Ray. Carey Lee Ray was a lifelong lover of music and was involved in Choir throughout his time in school where he lettered as a Senior in High School. He was always a member of the Choir wherever he attended church services. He also served as Team Manager for the Basketball Team until graduating from Jersey Village High School in 1990. Carey spent most of his adult life working in the automotive industry as a Vehicle Porter and make-ready Technician. Carey served with distinction, earning accolades such as Employee of the Month, until his career was cut short due to ongoing Brain Tumor related medical issues. During his post work years, he was a member of the Gathering Place where he helped in answering phones and wherever he was needed. He was loved and respected by both staff and members alike.
Early in life, Carey enjoyed playing video games, (sometimes even leaving a chance for his cousin Renee to play), pinball machines and torturing his sister Christina along with his brother Corey as older brothers often do. Carey was an avid pool player and enjoyed various games such as Poker, King’s Corner and Mexican Train. He was also a lifetime fan of the Houston Texans, Rockets and especially the Astros. Although he loved both Music and Movies, Carey’s biggest joy in life was spending time with his nieces and nephews who truly meant the world to him.
He celebrated his 50th birthday in August 2021 with many friends and family including Gerald and Patty Pape. He was widely recognized by his sense of humor, his almost constant smile, and for laughing at the most inappropriate times. If there was any way to sum up Carey in a few words, it would be that he loved unconditionally, was steadfast, loyal, kind, gentle and brave.
He was proceeded in death by Grandparents, Lloyd and Sonora Ray of Kountze, TX, Hubert and Ruth Adams of Smiley, TX and Hardy and Lois Rodden of Durant, OK. He was also proceeded most recently by Aunts and Uncles, Janet and Ralph Swonke of Waller, TX, James “Tex” and Marvin “Chip” Ray both of Houston, TX and other Aunts, Uncles and Cousins too numerous to count.
He is survived by parents Howard & Linda (Rodden) Ray, sister, Christina & husband Jorge Molinar, brother Corey Ray and wife Cheryl Svec and brothers and sisters like family, Renee’ & Oscar Rios, Karen & Ray Morgan, Robert Mahaffey and Bryce Adcock. He is also survived by his dearest loves, his nieces, and nephews: Rebecca, Melody & Husband Cole, Cullen & wife Savannah, Cassidy, Cooper, Katelyn, Ashley and Matthew. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Cannon, Dakota, Emiah, Ezra, Emmit & Eternity.
