He was born in Houston, Texas on August 21, 1933. Jack attended 1st – 12th grades in Humble ISD, graduating from Charles Bender High School. He served in the United States Navy on active duty and in the Naval Reserves from 1952 – 1960. He proudly served as part of a carrier air group aboard the USS Oriskany (VF-191) during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the United Nations Medal. Jack was married to Mary Cullum on August 8, 1956. He had a career in Industrial Manufacturing and also served as a Harris County Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Nita and Will Cullum) and his siblings (Jimmy Cullum, Mickey Cullum, and Ethyl Ward).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years (Mary), children Mary Ann Roberts (Philip), Donna Pruitt (Dennis), and Don Cullum (Karen). Additional survivors include 6 grandchildren (Lauren Peters, Cameron Roberts, J.R. Pruitt, Katie Baker, Casey Pruitt, and Dustin Cullum) and 10 great-grandchildren (William Lukefahr, Carson Roberts, Chandler, Jordan, and Mason Pruitt, Kaden and Reagan Baker, Camila Pruitt, Charlotte and Francesca Cullum.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Brookside Funeral Home. A graveside service for all who wish to attend will follow the visitation.
Pallbearers are grandsons J.R. Pruitt, Cameron Roberts, and Dustin Cullum, along with nephews Max Cullum, Jr., Jack Cullum, Mike Swearingen, and Wilbur Swearingen. Honorary pallbearers: Casey Pruitt, Darrell Cullum, Michael Cullum, and Brian Roberson.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests, with gratitude, that memorial contributions in Jack’s name be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (https://www.jdrf.org/), the American Heart Institute (https://www.heart.org/), or the charity of one’s choice.
