Billie Ruth Hill entered into rest on Sunday, April 3, 2016 surrounded by some of her closest family. She was born in Paris, Texas on August 15th, 1928 to the late Ira and Dorothy Jones. Her father, known as “Amazing Grace Jones”, and mother were pastors, and Billie’s love for the church started very early as a child. She hated to miss church, and even made it a point to be in service the Sunday before her passing. Growing up she loved to sing with her brothers and sisters and harmonizing was her specialty. Her and her siblings would sing on the radio, at every family gathering, and of course in the church house. At different times, she was a song leader for her church, a Sunday School teacher, a children’s ministry bus driver, and hired nanny for the pastors’ kids she loved so much. Billie was the first of her family to graduate high school. After graduation, she began working for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and would eventually retire from there. Late on the night of January 15th, 1948 Marvin Sherrill Hill snuck out of his parents home crawling on his hands and knees, using his military training and instincts, and drove straight to Billie’s parents home where they would then elope and be married. She always loved Marvin, and they remained married for 48 years until his passing in 1996. Second only to her love for God and his church was her love for family. She was proud of her rich family heritage, and getting together as a family is something she cherished very much. Billie was mother to Pamela Ruth and Sherrill Ray, grandmother to Michael, Angela, Ashley, Logan, and Dawn, but she was the adopted nannie to countless others. Billie is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Dorothy Jones, five brothers and one sister, her husband, Marvin Sherrill Hill, son Sherrill Ray Hill, and great-granddaughter Waverly Grace Martin. She is survived by sisters Bobbie Macey and Omega McCracken, daughter Pamela Wiggs and husband Tony, daughter-in-law Donna Hill, grandson Michael Hill and wife Michelle, granddaughter Angela Hare and husband Jay, granddaughter Ashley Martin and husband Chuck, grandson Logan Wilkinson and wife Taylor, and granddaughter Dawn Hill and also by great grandchildren Tyler Hill, Wrenly Martin, Evelyn Wilkinson, and Stella Wilkinson as well as many other nieces, nephews and other beloved family members.
